Text Box: MINISTRY SUNDAY

This weekend of October 18th and 19th is Ministry Sunday here at Assumption. We cordially invite everyone to consider the wonderful ways you might use your gifts and skills to serve our parish community. Among our needs are: assisting in our Religious Education programs; proclaiming God’s Word during Mass; bringing the Eucharist to the sick and homebound, assisting at Sunday Eucharist as an Altar Server or Usher; helping with the Homeless Shelter we sponsor and volunteering to be on a parish Committee. These are some of the ways that you might serve God and the parish community. Come! See! Sign Up!

CHRISTMAS GALA

It is not too early to mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Assumption Christmas Gala -
“Let There Be Peace on Earth” - which will take place on Saturday, December 6th in the Church Hall. More details will follow.
Text Box: POT LUCK SUPPER

Join in the fun on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 5:30 P.M. for Assumption’s annual Pot Luck Supper. This is not a fundraiser but a great chance for parishioners to get to know each other better and to share delicious family favorites with friends old and new. If you can bring an appetizer, entrée, side dish, salad, or dessert, please contact Reena Raggi Denton at 718-643-9816 OR reena_raggi@ca2.uscourts.gov before Thursday, October 29. If you cannot bring something this year, come anyway! There is always plenty, and the supper is definitely a “more the merrier” celebration of the Assumption community.

WORLD PRIEST DAY

World Priest Day is a celebration and affirmation of the priests who commit their lives to the Lord and the Church via the Sacrament of Holy Orders. It is an opportunity for Catholics to thank and support their priests. It will be celebrated next Sunday, October 26th.

Dear Friends:
This weekend is truly a special time in our parish. We celebrate Ministry Sunday. What a joy to know, that by Baptism, each of us is called to use our special gifts and talents for the glory of the Church and, in particular, for the good of our parish. Here, at Assumption, we have been very rewarded with the wonderful people who choose to become part of the varied ministries we offer. It is because of this generosity that our parish is able to celebrate the liturgy especially in such a devout and meaningful way. It is because of this generosity that the many activities we sponsor or host are so successful. I ask you to please pray and ask yourself how you can best give some of your talents and gifts to the parish. Please review the list of ministries and consider getting involved in some way so that our parish will grow in love and in the joy of Mary our Patroness. There is a special table at the back of the Church this weekend at all Masses and some of our ministers will be there to answer any questions for you. Thank you!

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Michael A. Carrano
