Text Box: From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Friends:
What do apostles have to offer? Not something built by humans or that typically even makes sense to humans. The apostles’ message speaks of a new life with God, but that is very much something given by God, not by the apostles. What does that mean? What does that look like? It is put into human hands. Christ builds his Church out of human stuff. What do his apostles have to work with? Peter has enthusiasm. He is given the insight to see that Jesus is the Christ. Does Peter know what all that means? What we see of Peter’s story shows a mixture of success and failure. Still, he is made an apostle. He is promised he will have responsibilities, and he is promised that the Spirit that led him to recognize Christ will stay with him. Paul is a fighter. He has tremendous fervor for God—enough to grapple with and try to destroy the upstart group he sees threatening the work of God. At the end of his life, he is used up from battling—but by then he has been fighting to spread the same Gospel, preaching the same Christ that grabbed him and drove him to bring the message to everyone he could find.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Michael A. Carrano
